How to Make a Quiz in Google Forms on iPhone (2026)

By Jeremy · ·

📘 Part of Google Forms on iPhone & iPad: The Complete Guide

Quiz Mode Is a Switch, Not a Different Product

A Google Forms quiz is an ordinary form with Make this a quiz toggled on in Settings. The switch adds three abilities: an answer key per question, points, and feedback. You can flip it on a finished form — questions, link, and existing responses all survive — so building the questions first and keying them afterwards is a perfectly good workflow on a phone.

Setting Answer Keys from iPhone

  1. Select a question and tap Answer key (bottom-left of the card).
  2. Mark the correct answer — one choice, several checkboxes, or accepted short-answer texts.
  3. Set the point value; zero is allowed for ungraded items mixed in.
  4. Optional but worth it: Add answer feedback — an explanation (or a link) shown after grading, which is what turns a practice quiz into a teaching tool.

Auto-grading covers multiple choice, checkboxes, dropdown, and short answer (accepted-text matching — add spelling variants you will accept and test samples). Grid types also have answer-key options; test their scoring for your layout. Paragraph and file-upload questions collect normally but wait for your manual points; that half of the workflow is covered in auto-grading quizzes on iPad and iPhone.

See Google’s quiz and grading instructions for the current controls.

The Three Decisions in Quiz Settings

For the classroom wrapper around all this — attendance, exit tickets, permission slips — see Google Forms for teachers on iPad and iPhone.

Building a full quiz on a phone is genuinely doable in Safari; it is also twenty answer keys’ worth of tap-and-scroll. In our Forms for Google Drive iOS app the same quiz editing is native — and its AI generation can draft the whole question set from a topic or a document first, leaving you to adjust keys instead of typing questions.

Build the quiz on mobile, then test an individual countdown

On iPhone and iPad. Forms for Google Drive supports quiz preparation and mobile form management on iPhone/iPad. Review any AI-drafted questions and answer keys before using them with learners.

With the Workspace add-on. Use Form Timer by pipiform when each learner should get an allowance measured from their own start. Configure it on a computer, rehearse the timed link, and verify optional auto-submit. A shared closing date is a different rule from a 20-minute attempt.

The app and Workspace add-ons are separate pipiform products. Forms for Google Drive is US$59.99/year with a 3-day trial; check the App Store offer for your region. Form Timer is free on one form; its Pro plan is US$80/year or US$10/month. See current product pricing before subscribing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I turn an existing form into a quiz?

Open Settings and toggle on 'Make this a quiz' — the form keeps every question and gains quiz abilities: answer keys, points, and feedback. Nothing about the form's link or responses changes, so you can convert a form that is already built and just add the keys afterwards.

Which question types can be auto-graded?

Types with definite answers: multiple choice, checkboxes, dropdown, and short answer (matched against the exact texts you list). Paragraph answers and file uploads always need manual review — Forms collects them and leaves the points to you, which is the follow-up covered in our grading guide.

When do students see their scores?

Choose in quiz settings: Immediately after each submission lets respondents access released scores after submitting; Later, after manual review holds scores until you release them from Responses. Collect email addresses if you want to email scores after review, and test the release and visibility settings.

Can students see which answers were correct?

You control three switches in quiz settings: missed questions, correct answers, and point values. For practice quizzes, turning all three on makes the quiz self-teaching. For real assessments, showing correct answers lets early submitters share the key — most teachers turn that off until everyone has finished.

Can I stop students from googling answers in another tab?

Google’s locked mode is for eligible managed Chromebooks with Workspace for Education; it does not lock iPhone browsing. Shuffling questions or options, a clear integrity policy, and a timer can support your assessment design, but none prevents looking up or sharing answers on iOS. Review the suitability for the stakes of your assessment.

How many points can each question be worth?

Set a non-negative whole-number point value in the answer key, within the editor’s accepted limits; zero can be used for ungraded items. The editor shows the total. You can manually assign partial points; automatic checkbox grading normally requires the complete correct selection. Test the intended scoring before sharing.
