How to Make a Google Form Anonymous on iPhone (2026)
In this guide
What “Anonymous” Actually Means in Google Forms
The practical aim is to avoid collecting identifying information in the response dataset. Disable email collection and remove identity fields, but also review free text, uploaded files, unique links and timestamps. Signed-out access and anonymity to the form owner are related but different questions.
People most often break anonymity by accident, in one of three ways:
- Email collection is on. Verified or respondent-entered email collection adds an address to the response dataset.
- “Limit to 1 response” is on. This requires Google sign-in. Google says the username is not recorded for the owner unless email collection is enabled. Turn the limit off if respondents must answer without an account.
- The questions themselves ask for identity. A “Your name” field undoes everything the settings did.
Review these settings and the full questionnaire from your iPhone before making an anonymity promise.
Step-by-Step: Make a Form Anonymous from Your iPhone
- Open forms.google.com in Safari and tap your form to open the editor.
- Tap the Settings tab at the top (next to Questions and Responses).
- Expand Responses and set Collect email addresses to Do not collect.
- In the same panel, confirm Limit to 1 response is off.
- Return to the Questions tab and delete any questions asking for names, emails, IDs, or other identifying details.
- Describe only what you actually checked, for example “We do not ask for your name or email. Please avoid identifying details in your answers.” Do not promise complete anonymity based only on a toggle.
The mobile Safari editor exposes all of these settings — no desktop needed. If a panel looks cramped, rotate to landscape or use Safari’s Request Desktop Website option (in the ᴀA menu).
If you adjust form settings from your phone regularly, this is exactly the friction our Forms for Google Drive iOS app removes: the same Google Form, opened in a native editor where response settings live in a proper iOS settings screen instead of a squeezed web panel. Nothing to migrate — it works on your existing forms through your Google account.
Verify Before You Send It
Open the published responder link in a private Safari tab while signed out. Test access, read any email-collection notice, then inspect the stored test response. Also check file-upload questions, publication audience and other access restrictions. A successful signed-out submission tests access, not every anonymity risk.
Delete your test answer afterwards from the Responses tab if you want a clean dataset.
Workspace Accounts: The Extra Trap
For a school or company Workspace form, review the responder audience in Share or Published as well as response settings. Restricted audiences can require organization sign-in. Ask the administrator which access and data-collection policies apply; do not infer those policies from the editor alone.
If a setting is unavailable or locked, ask the Workspace administrator about the permitted setup. Do not move an organization’s survey or data to a personal account to evade its controls.
When You Need the Opposite
Anonymity is the right call for feedback, sensitive polls, and honest workplace surveys. But when you do need to know who responded — sign-up sheets, graded quizzes, event registrations — the useful companions are limiting responses, setting a deadline, and getting notified on every submission. All three work from an iPhone as well.
Review anonymous feedback with a small distribution list
On iPhone and iPad. Forms for Google Drive can help you review feedback on iPhone/iPad, but anonymity still depends on the form’s fields and settings. Keep names, email collection, and identifying free-text answers out of a survey you describe as anonymous.
With the Workspace add-on. Use Form to Docs by pipiform if you need a document of selected feedback for a review meeting. Export only the necessary responses and inspect the result for identifying details before sharing. Exporting data does not anonymize it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Google Forms anonymous by default?
Defaults can vary by account, saved settings and organization policy. Inspect email collection, questions, file uploads and responder access instead of assuming a new form is anonymous. Test the actual published form and stored response.
Can the form owner see who responded if the form is anonymous?
Turning off email collection prevents that field from being collected through that setting; it does not remove names written in answers, uploaded identifiers, unique codes or clues from timestamps. Google says one-response sign-in does not record usernames for the owner unless email collection is enabled. Do not equate this with a guarantee against identification.
Does 'Limit to 1 response' break anonymity?
It requires Google sign-in and therefore prevents account-free responses. Google says usernames are not recorded for the form owner unless email collection is enabled. If signed-out participation is required, leave the limit off and consider how to handle duplicate submissions.
How do respondents know the form is anonymous?
Read the notice about whether an email is recorded and the owner’s stated collection practices. A signed-in account may be displayed without being collected as a response field. Neither the lack of a notice nor an anonymity claim proves that answer content cannot identify someone.
Can I make a quiz anonymous and still grade it?
You can, but the grades will be anonymous too — you will see scores per response without knowing whose they are. That suits practice quizzes and training checks. For graded classwork you inherently need identity, so collect emails or add a name question and tell students the quiz is not anonymous.
Is the timestamp a privacy risk on anonymous forms?
It can be in small groups. Every response records a submission time, so if only one person was in the room at 14:03, the answer is effectively identifiable. For sensitive small-team surveys, leave the form open for a longer window and tell respondents they can submit any time — the larger the submission window and group, the weaker the timestamp signal.
